HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A NZJFT COMPETITION?
BOYS / GIRLS, SKIERS / SNOWBOARDERS:
1) Registration via Freeride World Tour website, Liveheats

2) You must become a freeride world tour member and fill out the waiver's.

One event license or season license from FWT is needed to compete in over 10 age categories.

If doing 2 or more comps one has to purchase a season license. Upgrading from 1 comp to the season license comps license is possible, just contact us via njuniorfreeridetour@gmail.com

After registration and filling in your valid credit card details you will receive a notification you are 'waitlisted' for the event. Closer to date

your registration will be confirmed and payment is taken or you may be waitlisted for longer should the amount of registrations exceed the number of spots in your category. For U15 first come first serve is used to decide who will have a spot. For U17 & U19 the seeding list on FWT is used to decide who will have a spot or not. So please do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation if you are relatively low on the seeding list as there is a chance you may not have a spot to compete.

Under 11 AGE CATEGORY:
Under 11yr olds registration is via New Zealand Junior Freeride Tour via email. This is for riders 7, 8 9 & 10 yrs of age. 10 yr olds can also compete in the U14 category (FWT licence needed), 11 yr old riders need to register in the U15 category. We will not accept 6 yr olds.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Each event will cost NZ$ 120.00/ EU 62

This does not include a lift pass, although we have negotiated reduced rates for athletes.
WHAT AGE CATEGORY AM I IN?
U11 is special age category unique to NZJFT. Riders 7, 8, 9 & 10 yrs must be competent riders and can register via email: nzjuniorfreeridetour@gmail.com
The event organisers can cancel this category based on conditions of the competition day. 10 yr old can also move up to the U15 category or remain in U11 category till they turn 11 yrs. We will not accept riders 6 years and younger.
U15: This category is for riders 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14. The rider must not have turned 15 on the day of a competition. Juniors 14 yrs old are still allowed to compete in the U15 category until they are 15 years old but can switch to the following category (U17 for ski men, U19 for the 3 others categories). As soon as they turn 10 years old, Junior riders can purchase a FWT license and start competing in the U-14 age group or stay in U10 till they turn 11.
U17: This category is for ski men riders aged 14, 15 & 16 years old. The rider must not have turned 17 on the day of a competition. Juniors ski men turning 16 are allowed to compete in the U17 category until they are 17 years old but can also switch to the U19 category. 14 yr old ski men can either compete in U15 or in U17
U19 Ski Female and Snowboard Male/ Female: This category is for riders 15, 16, 17 & 18 years old. The rider must not have turned 19 on the day of a competition. Juniors turning 19 years old on the day of a competition cannot compete as "Junior U19" and have to switch to the FWT QUALIFIER series as soon as they turn 19 years old. Juniors 18 years old are still allowed to compete in the U19 category until 19 years old but can choose to switch to the FWT QUALIFIERS series.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
U15, U17 & U19 Categories:
Helmet, Back Protection, Backpack, Avalanche Transceiver, Shovel and
Probe are mandatory.
Equipment will be checked on comp day and if any piece is missing no
competition!
Mouth guard and ABS are not mandatory but highly recommended
Under 11 Category:
Helmet and backpack compulsory.
Some resorts may require all athletes to need avalanche equipment so bring in case.
In the case of high winds & steep hiking to the start we suggest that you have a safety line for your young rider with you.
Invitations to JFT World Championships.
Invitations to Jnr World Championships in Kappl, Austria 2027:
The athletes who are awarded the world championship invitations will be the top ranked riders in each U19 age category.
Note: Invitations will be awarded to the riders who show maturity, professionalism and skills needed to represent our nation on the world stage. These invitations will be awarded at NZJFT’s discretion.
Oceania rankings:
The best 3 results of the Oceania season will apply (July, Aug, Sept 2026)
